The
Entry Garden
San Francisco Botanical Gardens, Strybing Arboretum
Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA
The
Entry Garden
at the San Francisco
Botanical Garden was
completed by Planet Horticulture in 1997. The 55 acre SF Botanical Garden is divided into various geographic
regions of the world. The Botanical
Garden and Society wanted the main entrance gardens to give visitors a taste
of what they would find in the greater collections. Yet they also wanted a creative and
artistic flair to the project. As
with any destination, the entrance sets the tone for your whole
experience. Within the classical
mid-century modern architecture of the courtyard entrance, the gardens are a
plant lover's fantasy. Hundreds of
rare and unusual plants are combined in a rich tapestry. Footpaths over
mounds lead you right into the middle of the plantings. Public tours of the Botanical Garden start
next to the bookstore in the Entry
Garden. A great success, the revived courtyard Entry
Garden has been used for education and
fundraisers. Maintained by the City
Parks Department, Planet Horticulture contributes volunteer labor and
materials annually to help keep the
Entry Garden
on the cutting edge of new plant introduction and fine garden design.
