Napa Valley Diamond Mt Villa
This rustic Italian-style villa, set on a 24-acre knoll, was built overlooking Diamond Mountain Valley, southwest of Calistoga in the Napa Valley, California. It’s a spectacular property that makes you feel like you’re actually in Tuscany! Our clients wanted to emphasize fresh fruit and vegetable production on the property and a casual feel. We started by creating access and organization around the houses, creating a strolling trail. Then, we layered in various plants to help blend in with the natural setting and background while providing color, texture, and a pollinator’s paradise. Plentiful fruit trees are found along the trails, and a perfect edible garden is steps away from the kitchen. Most of the property is acreage of natural woodland that was previously unused. We created a natural area trail to make these areas accessible and showcase some unique native plants growing there. Vegetation management practices included zoning for fire prevention and creating significant defensible space. Using forestry mulching, Douglas fir thinning, and managing invasive plants, we increased habitat diversity for rare plants and pollinators while reducing fire risk to the home.
